Settlement monitoring under embankments are undertaken using settlement plates, which are installed at existing ground level under an embankment and are frequently monitored. This can provide an indication of the magnitude of settlement under the embankment loads. Settlement plates are a simple and effective but accurate method to ensure that settlements are tracked continuously before thresholds are reached.
