Alliance played a key role in the Sydney Metro West project, partnering with GLC and Ward Civil to deliver the Clyde MSF. At peak, 4-5 Alliance personnel were on-site managing engineering inspections, assessments and earthworks testing. The project comprised two major components: MSF bulk earthworks and surrounding structures and pavements.
For the MSF bulk earthworks, Alliance conducted initial ground assessments, foundation treatments, and extensive test pits – often in contaminated conditions – to confirm foundation suitability. Approximately 500,000m³ of fill was placed, including 350,000m³ of general fill (150,000m³ contaminated site-won material and 200,000m³ tunnel stone/shale). Alliance supervised placement, performed specialty lab testing and enabled full reuse of contaminated material through custom lab blending. Working closely with the client, we increased general fill layer thickness from 200mm to 300mm via trials and documentation, meeting compaction standards. Over 4,000 compaction tests and 200 conformance suites were completed.
Surrounding works included:
- Unwin Street Overpass – major earthworks, pavements and SRWs with foundation inspections and material testing
- Duck Creek – diversion of a 1.5km watermain and drainage works; Alliance simplified piling platform design, saving $500,000
- Perimeter Retaining Wall – 3.5km wall with foundation assessments and backfill compaction testing
- Other Structures – utilities, drainage and surface works with extensive compaction and conformance testing.
