Western Harbour Tunnel – Stg 2

The Western Harbour Tunnel will be a new 6.5km motorway connecting the M4-M8 Link tunnels in Rozelle with the Warringah Freeway in North Sydney, creating a western bypass of the CBD.

The Scope

The Western Harbour Tunnel will be a new 6.5km motorway connecting the M4-M8 Link tunnels in Rozelle with the Warringah Freeway in North Sydney, creating a western bypass of the CBD.

Alliance is working closely with Acciona to provide investigation work and install water monitoring wells to support the development of the detailed design.

Alliance is providing a complete service of Geotechnical investigation work, Environmental monitoring and a wide range of Testing for this project including:

  • Logging and sampling of rock, soil and groundwater of geotechnical boreholes drilled along the alignment of the tunnel
  • Geotechnical in-situ and laboratory testing including:
    • In-situ stress testing
    • Packer testing
    • Unconfined compressive strength testing
    • Direct shear of defects
  • Downhole televiewer
  • Groundwater sampling and level logging of groundwater monitoring wells
  • Geological rock face mapping
  • Contamination testing.

Alliance is providing a team of experienced Engineering Geologists and Geotechnical Engineers to assist with work onsite during drilling. On-site there are up to four drill rigs excavating approximately 40 bore holes that are 40-80m deep.
