Muddy Creek Naturalisation

The naturalisation of Muddy Creek involved revitalising a section in Brighton-Le-Sands to create a healthy, vibrant and community- friendly waterway.

The Scope

The naturalisation of Muddy Creek involved revitalising a section in Brighton-Le-Sands to create a healthy, vibrant and community- friendly waterway. This project comprised replacing approximately 810m of existing stormwater concrete canal with sandstone and native landscape and improved the local environment creating a beautiful space for the community to enjoy.

Planting a diverse range of native plants and an additional salt marsh improved the creek’s health and natural character. It also ensured the stability of the banks, making sure they remain an inviting community space for generations to come.

Alliance was involved very early on in the project carrying out foundation inspections for the base of the creek. Roughly a year later were returned to site for the main works. We were responsible for coordinating stockpile and in-situ soil waste classification works and reporting, asbestos supervision and inspections, preparation of asbestos clearances certificates and validation of treated acid sulphate soils in accordance with site specific management plans.

The project presented various challenges including low-lying topography and tidal influences in close proximity to recreational and residential land use. Alliance worked closely with Sydney Water’s South Region Delivery Team (D4C) to complete these works.
